Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have abducted the Secretary of Kukawa Local Government Council of Borno State alongside one other person.
Local and security sources confirmed the incident to Daily Trust.
Our correspondent gathered that the abduction occurred around 1.35pm on Tuesday at Garin Kashim, while the victims were travelling to Kukawa in a Volkswagen Golf vehicle.
“The insurgents intercepted the vehicle, asked the secretary and the other person to step out, and released the remaining passengers.

“They then led the newly posted secretary and the other victim into the bush,” a security source said.
A local source linked the incident to a possible tip-off from informants in the area where the secretary began his journey.
“They (the insurgents) hid near the river and waited for the Golf to arrive. They went straight for the secretary and the other person. This was the work of an informant,” he said.
He added that the Sector 3 military command had deployed troops in response.
“We made a distress call to Sector 3, and they immediately dispatched troops to track and rescue the victims,” he said.
Kukawa Local Government Area is situated in the Lake Chad region, where Boko Haram insurgents terrorise residents and travellers.
The incident happened just two days after Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters killed seven individuals-including hunters, Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) members, and community watch operatives-in Magumeri Local Government Area of Borno State.
In a 6-minute, 41-second video obtained by Daily Trust, a masked ISWAP fighter is seen interrogating the captives one by one before executing them.
The footage shows the victims, clad in red jumpsuits, kneeling with armed militants standing behind them, brandishing rifles and knives.
The group’s commander accused the captives of hypocrisy and collaborating with “infidels,” which he claimed justified their execution.
