Gunmen, Thursday night, attacked the convoy of Emir of Kauran Namoda, Major Sanusi Muhammad Asha (rtd), along Zaria – Funtua road, killing eight persons, Daily Trust gathered.

The 70km Zaria – Funtua road has been a nightmare for travellers, especially at night.

There have been reported incidents of kidnapping and armed robbery along the road for a while.

The uncle of the Emir, Danjeka of Kauran Namoda, Alhaji Abdulkarim Ahmad Asha, told Daily Trust that he received a phone call around 3am on Friday that the Emir was attacked.

“The gunmen fired shots at a Hilux vehicle at the front and killed the driver, three police men and four others.

“In all, eight people were killed.

“But Almighty Allah in his infinite mercy had made the Emir and his wife to escape the attack unscathed,” Danjeka said.

They are currently at a police formation in Funtua Local Government Area of Katsina and all arrangements are on top gear to convey the remains of the victims to Kaura Namoda for burial immediately after Jumuat prayer.
