Gunmen on Tuesday night attacked Father Angus Fraser Memorial High School located at Adeke village in Makurdi metropolis of Benúe State.
The Catholic Diocese of Makurdi therefore ordered the closure of the school on Wednesday after the incident carried out by the yet-to-be-identified armed men.
Director of Social Communications, Catholic Diocese of Makurdi, Very Revd Fr Moses Iorapuu, who confirmed this to journalists in Makurdi on Wednesday, said the school had been closed to enable the authorities to investigate the matter.
Iorapuu, in a phone conversation, said, “Sad news from one of our schools. An attack was carried out by unidentified gunmen last night at Father Angus Fraser Memorial High School.
“The Principal, Fr Emmanuel Ogwuche, and the students are all safe, except for a security officer who was badly injured in the attack and is receiving attention at the hospital.”
Iorapuu explained that the attackers gained access to the school compound and were shooting indiscriminately but were repelled by officers of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
