The gunmen who arrived in motorcycles were said to be six in number and another witness said a man dropped from a motorcycle and climbed up an electricity pole and brought out a gun and started firing. The other gunmen were also said to attack from the rear and the police retaliated.

The state police command confirmed the incident and said 3 policemen were injured while the joint security operations in the state have surrounded the area to make arrests.  The area leading to the university and the densely populated Kabuga Estate was put into confusion as people were halted for hours as military helicopters patrolled.
