Unknown gunmen on Tuesday night attacked the Nigerian Police Divisional headquarters at Ngo Town, the headquarters of Andoni local government area of Rivers State.

The attack on the Police station is coming barely three days after gunmen, suspected to be members of a cult group overran a Mobile Police unit at Ubeta community in Ahoada-West local government area of the state.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Ahmad Kidaya Muhammad, who confirmed the attack to newsmen in Port Harcourt, said no life was lost in the incident.

Muhammad said more security operatives have been deployed to the area following the attack while investigation is ongoing to arrest those behind the attack.

Meanwhile, Executive Director, of International Human Right and Humanitarian Organization, Anyakwee Nsirimovu, said the insecurity in the State erroneously subsumed under electoral politics, or mere fights by political gladiators can hold no longer.

Nsirimovu in statement issued in Port Harcourt said "The situation in the state erroneously subsumed under electoral politics, or mere fights by political gladiators, for the soul of the State, can hold no longer. What is being experienced in the state is gross and attested human rights violations, that must be given the urgent attention it deserves"

"And the state government must take absolute responsibility, because security of life and property is its fundamental reason of existence, rather than prevaricating or politicking on the issue of the fundamental right to life of citizens"
