Gunmen yesterday attacked a police station at Gegu, Koton-Karfe Local Government Area of Kogi State killing two policemen on duty.

Daily Trust learnt that the gunmen, who were heavily armed, invaded the police station in the early hours of Monday and shot sporadically killing two of the policemen on duty while a suspect in detention at the station was also injured.

It was further learnt that the gunmen made away with the rifles of the slain policemen just as they also ransacked the station in search of more weapons.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the state Police Command,  Mr. William Ayah, who confirmed the incident said the command has launched an investigation into the attack.

Ayah confirmed that two of his men were killed by the attackers while a suspect sustained gunshot injuries.

Meanwhile, the remains of the two policemen have been deposited in the morgue of the Federal Medical Centre Lokoja while the injured suspect is being attended to.
