Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted a man, Umar Alhassan, and his in-law, Fatima Ali, in Abaji, Abuja.

A family member of the victims, who preferred anonymity, said the incident happened around 11pm on Friday, when gunmen attacked the victims’ house in the area.

He said the gunmen positioned themselves when some other members of the gang forced the back door of house open and whisked away the victim and his in-law.

According to him, the gunmen opened fire and shattered the burglary proof of the windows of the house.

He said the family has been able to establish contact with the kidnappers who demanded N20 million as ransom before the victims could be set free.

“But as of Saturday evening, we are able to arrive at N1.5 million, even as we are still pleading with them to still bring down the ransom at a level we can afford because he is having some health challenges,”he said.

Our reporter learnt that the victim is a teacher at Government Secondary School (GSS), Gwargwada, Kuje Area Council.

The spokesperson of the FCT police command, ASP Mariam Yusuf, said the command was not aware of the incident. “It was not reported to us”.
