Gunmen suspected to be members of a kidnap syndicate have kidnapped a senior pastor with the Apostolic Church in Akwa-Ibom State.

Pastor Mfon Akpan Udoneke, an area superintendent of the church in Ikot-Akoa Idem, Ukanafun Local Government Area, was said to have been kidnapped on Monday morning at about 5am while preparing for a women’s fellowship prayer meeting.

A source who pleaded not to be named, yesterday, said the kidnappers stormed the pastor’s house and whisked him away in the presence of his family members.

The whereabouts of the pastor is still unknown as the kidnappers are yet to establish contact with the victim’s family or church.

“The family and the church are in a state of confusion because the kidnappers are yet to establish contact with the church or the family as to know what their demands are,” the source said.

When contacted, Akwa-Ibom State police spokesperson, Macdon Oguche, said he was yet to be briefed on the issue, but promised to immediately get in touch with the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ukanafun.
