Gunmen kill 1, abduct Lebanese engineer

Unknown gunmen have shot dead a staff and abducted a Lebanese engineer said to have been working for Triacta Construction Company at Kano Zoo Road underpass site within the state metropolis.

The incident was said to have occurred around 7:00am on Tuesday morning at the site when staff of the company were returning to work after the election’s break.

An eye witness said the gunmen arrived in a black Volkswagen Golf car with tinted glasses and started firing and the staff was shot in the head and the gunmen then took away the Lebanese expatriate away.

“I dropped from a tricycle and I was trying to pay the driver when all of a sudden a black Volkswagen Golf car stopped close to us and three men alighted from it. Then one of the men brought out a rifle and began shooting. I and the driver of the tricycle ran for our lives, after some minutes they left and we saw the lifeless body of one of the staff of the construction company,” said the eye witness.

Another, witness Salisu Shehu told Chronicle that, the assailants were shooting in the air when the people around the area started shouting ‘thief’ that was when the hoodlum decided to aim the gun at the people.

“I went to get a breakfast, when we heard gun shots and the whole of the construction site was sent into confusion, people were running for their lives.

“Initially we thought it was a clash between political thugs taking into consideration the tension in town, but we later realized that it was a kidnap plot and they have succeeded in taking away their target the expatriate engineer,” Salisu said.

When contacted, Kano state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) DSP Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed the incident. He said investigation into the incident had commenced.
