Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen yesterday reportedly killed two persons in Owan community in Ovia North East Local Government of Edo state.

It was gathered that one of the victims, simply identified as Owoh, a palm wine tapper was killed in his farm while the other victim, Samuel Imonkhai was also killed in his farm.

Speaking on the incident, the Odionwere (eldest man) of the community, Pa Ifiabor Michael, said the communities had been under siege from suspected herdsmen, who have not only destroyed the people’s farm land but have also been killing people.

He alleged that no fewer than eight persons have been killed across these communities this year.

Also speaking, a resident who craved anonymity, said recently a policeman was killed while another and vigilante members sustained various degrees of injury from an ambush from the same bandits when they attempted to go to the bush to retrieve the corpse of a member of the community who was also killed in the farm.

When contacted, spokesman of the police in the state, DSP Chidi Nwanbuzor, said he had not been briefed and that he would call the reporter as soon as he gets detail of the incident, which he was yet to do at press.
