Gunmen on Thursday killed two people in an attack on Agboughul community, a suburb of Makurdi, behind the city’s modern market in Benue State.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, ASP Moses Yamu, confirmed the incident.

Yamu said the gunmen were suspected herdsmen.

Residents of the area alleged that the attackers crossed from the opposite side of the River Benue and unleashed terror on the community during which the deceased who were digging well in the surrounding felled to the gunmen’s bullet.

Others were said to sustain varied degree of injury and have been taking to the hospital for treatment.

The remains of the dead victims were moved on a motorbike to the ‘D’ Division Police station in Makurdi by angry youths who almost went wild but for the timely intervention of security operatives, Daily Trust learnt.
