Gunmen kill 2 vigilantes in FCT

Gunmen, suspected to be bandits, have reportedly shot dead two vigilante members and injured one other at Dogon Ruwa village in Abaji Area Council of the FCT.

One of the vigilantes, Barnabas Issac, who confirmed the incident to our reporter on Thursday, said it happened on Tuesday, around 4:36pm.

He said the gunmen attempted to invade a Fulani settlement at Dogon Ruwa village when the vigilantes swiftly engaged them in a gun duel.

He said the bandits were in their large numbers with some of them wearing army uniforms and carrying AK47 rifles.

Barnabas added that two of the vigilantes lost their lives and one other sustained injury during the incident.

“The bandits, who were in their large numbers, attempted to attack a Fulani settlement when the sound of their gunshots attracted the attention of the vigilantes, who quickly mobilised to engage them.

‘’Unfortunately, during the crossfire, two of the vigilantes lost their lives, while one of them sustained bullet injury,” he said.

The vigilantes said the abduction attempt was foiled, adding that the injured vigilantes were taken to hospital in Gawu Babangida, where doctors confirmed two of them dead.

He said the remains of the dead vigilantes had been buried at Dogon Ruwa village.

Abuja Metro gathered that the gunmen came through Zago-Chakumi village on the border of Abaji Area Council in the FCT with Niger State.

The police in the area confirmed the incident but referred our reporter to the FCT police command for details.

The spokeswoman of the command, SP Josephine Adeh, could not be reached for comment on the incident as at the time of filing the report.
