Gunmen kill 3 Benue volunteer guards, 3 others

At least six people, including three personnel of Benue State Volunteer Guards, have been killed in a fresh attack by gunmen on villages in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.

Villagers said the fresh attack by armed invaders’ occurred on Tuesday in Ortese and Ngban communities of Guma.

The villagers said a hunter, two natives and three volunteer guards were killed after the gunmen invaded the communities and opened fire on them.

The Security Adviser to the governor, Lt-Col. Paul Hemba (rtd), confirmed the incident to journalists on phone in Makurdi.

He said, “Three members of Benue State Community Volunteer Guards, and a hunter were killed yesterday (Tuesday) by suspected bandits while on a joint patrol with policemen.

“They were ambushed by armed herdsmen between Ortese and Ngban villages,” he said.

Hemba gave their names as Sunday Ingbe, Timothy Ibawa and Asema Aondowase.

He added that their corpses had been recovered but that the assailants went away with their weapons and handsets.

But, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Benue, SP Catherine Anene, said she had yet to receive the report.
