Gunmen Kill 3 policemen, 5 vigilantes on Kogi farm

Gunmen have ambushed some security men at Jidda-Bassa community in Ajaokuta Local Government Area of Kogi State, killing three policemen and five vigilante members.

Daily Trust learnt that the incident happened on Saturday afternoon on a farm when vigilantes and police officers who were on the trail of hoodlums attacking farms in Jidda-Bassa community came under fire.

It was gathered that the Divisional Police Officer in the community had deployed some of his men and the vigilantes to the scene, but before they could get to the farm, they were ambushed by gunmen.

Three policemen and five vigilantes were said to have been killed in the process.

A reliable source said the bodies of the victims had been deposited at the mortuary of the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja.

The Security Adviser to the Kogi State Governor, Commodore Jerry Omodara (rtd), confirmed the incident, saying some security men were detailed to the community after some residents reported alleged attacks on their farms.

“Unfortunately, they were ambushed by ggunmen who killed three policemen and five vigilantes,” he said.

Meanwhile, the government has vowed to track down those behind the killings.

Omodara said the state government would take proactive steps to arrest the situation, adding that all those involved in the killings would be arrested and brought to book.

The state government advised the people of the community to be calm.
