Gunmen have kidnapped a Syrian engineer and killed three policemen guarding the quarry site of a Triacta Construction Company at Lambar Mazuru along Sokoto-Tambuwal road.

The policemen were said to have been ambushed by four gunmen in a black Golf 4 car with tinted glass at about 7am.

“I was at the site when they came and one of them shouted fire. They started firing at the three police men who were outside the gate,” a witness said.

He said one of the policemen had attempted to escape but that he was chased and killed by the gunmen.

“I and some few staff that were already inside managed to escape through the barbwire fence, leaving an old man that is looking after our equipment who could not run because of old age,” he stated.

He added: “When they saw the old man, they asked him to remain seated that they were not after him. They then went straight to our offices where they saw our acting Manager, a Syrian national, Mr. Abul, dragged him to their car, pushed him inside and drove away,” he said

He was, however, not sure if they have asked for ransom.

Police spokesperson in Sokoto, DSP Cordelia Nwawe, confirmed the incident. She said there was cross fire as the policemen tried to rescue the kidnap victim during which they were shot.

The policemen, she added were taken to hospital where they were confirmed dead.

She said the Commissioner of Police, Murtala Mani, had visited Yabo and that a reinforced police team had been dispatched to the area in order to rescue the kidnapped victim.
