Gunmen on Tuesday killed a 32-year-old breastfeeding mother and injured two others in a community of Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
According to a statement issued by the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM) signed by its Secretary General, Mr Bature Iliya Adazaram, the women on a commercial motorcycle were attacked at about 11:21 am today (Tuesday) while on their way to their farm.
The statement said the attackers who had laid ambush descended on their victims and inflicted deep cuts on them with cutlasses, while the commercial motorcyclist was able to escape from the scene of the incident, abandoning his motorcycle.
The group said: “The armed Fulani ambushed the unsuspecting victims, who were on a motorcycle from Bangai to Riyom, not knowing that the attackers had pinned them down with arms, which they used and opened gunfire at the victims. After shooting at the victims, we saw the Fulani hacking the victims, one of whom is Mrs Kangyang Benjamin, who gave up the ghost at Riyom General Hospital.

“The deceased 8-month-old baby, by name Dalo Benjamin, Mrs Mary Monday, 52 years, and Mrs Regina Monday, 50 years old, sustained serious injuries. The baby, though injured, was found in the mother’s pool of blood and taken to the hospital along with others that sustained injuries.”
The statement added that the hoodlums took away the motorcycle of Mr Habila Danladi, who narrowly escaped.
However, state chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, denied the allegation, saying the allegation was baseless.
“It has been the tradition that whenever there is a crime in any village, our members would be accused. I am not surprised that we are being accused. We don’t have anything regarding this incident and we call on members of the public to dismiss it,” the chairman said.
The spokesman of Plateau State Police Command, DSP Alfred Alabo, could not be reached for comment as at press time.
