An operative of the Edo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mr. Rawlings Osagie, has been killed by gunmen. 

Rawlings was shot dead on Monday at his residence located at Ugbor area of Benin after returning home from work late, Daily Trust learnt.

He was killed by a four-man gang armed with guns who laid siege on his home and fired at him as he was about to open the gate to his house. 

The younger brother to the deceased, Mr. Aghatise Osagie, told journalists that Rawlings was shot in the stomach by the gunmen who fled immediately.

He said Rawlings, an assistant superintendent, died at a hospital where he was taken for treatment after the shooting. 

When contacted, the Edo State Command Police Public Relations, Moses Nkombe, said he was yet to be briefed as the incident was not reported to the police.

Meanwhile, an official of the NSCDC, who craved anonymity confirmed the killing, said there was no official statement regarding the death.
