Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have shot dead a former chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Tafa Local Government Council of Niger State, Ishaya Sule, and abducted his wife Rebecca.

A resident, who preferred anonymity, said the incident happened in the early hours of Monday at about 1.22 am when suspected gunmen invaded the deceased’s private residence in Bwari- Sabo.

He said the armed men, who came through the bush scaled through the fence while other gang members positioned themselves outside the compound.

“The gunmen forced the house’s back door open, went straight to the deceased’s bedroom. They first hacked him with cutlasses before one of the gunmen shot him in the chest. Later, they whisked away his wife,” he said.

The chairman of Tafa Local Government Council, Ibrahim Mami Ijah, confirmed the killing of the former PDP chair in the area, saying he would compile a report on the incident and forward to the state commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs.

When contacted, spokesman of Niger State Police Command, CSP Wasiu Abiodun, said he would get back to our reporter, but was yet to do so at the time of filing this report.
