Some yet-to-identified gunmen on Sunday evening shot dead a former Chief Security Officer (CSP) of Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State, Mr. Letam Kine.
The incident has thrown the entire Bori, headquarters of Khana Local Government into panic, as residents have raised concerns over safety of the people in the area.
This is coming barely few days after unknown gunmen suspected to be cultists also killed the Omoku Zonal Commander of the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area Security Planning and Advisory Committee (OSPAC), Ozomela Stephen Nwaocha, and three women during an attack along Oba Road in Omoku, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The Sunday evening killing at Khana, which occurred along Polytechnic Road in Bori at about 6 p.m. on Sunday, triggered panic in the area as residents and passers-by fled for safety, while shop owners hurriedly shut their businesses.

According to sources in the area, the assailants fled the scene immediately after carrying out the attack before security operatives arrived.
Confirming the incident, the Chairman of Khana Local Government Area, Chief Dr. Thomas Bariere, condemned the killing, describing it as a senseless act of violence.
The council Chairman in a statement on Sunday by the Director of Press and Public Communications, Barry Neemana, described Kine’s murder as heartbreaking, stressing that such criminality has no place in a law-abiding society.
The council chairman expressed concern that the incident came barely weeks after the killing of Mr. Clement Deegbara J. of Kpong Community, noting that the repeated attacks suggested the activities of armed criminal gangs determined to undermine the peace and security of Khana.
He called on security agencies to intensify operations across the local government area and ensure that those responsible for the heinous crimes were swiftly apprehended and prosecuted.
Bariere also extended his condolences to the family of the deceased, praying that God would grant them the strength, comfort, and courage to bear the painful loss.
He urged residents of Khana to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding while continuing to support security agencies with timely and credible intelligence to aid ongoing investigations and prevent further criminal activities.
The chairman reaffirmed that the protection of lives and property remains a top priority of his administration.
Police spokesperson in Rivers State, ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, who also confirmed the incident, said the deceased corpse had been deposited at the mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
She said, “The body of the deceased has been deposited at the mortuary for preservation and autopsy, while a full investigation has commenced to identify and bring those responsible to justice.
“Although the family of the deceased has not yet lodged a formal complaint with the Police, they are strongly advised to do so, as this will aid ongoing investigations and facilitate the prompt administration of justice.
“The Rivers State Police Command remains committed to ensuring that all those connected with this incident are identified, arrested, and prosecuted in accordance with the law.”
