Gunmen have killed a 45-year-old man, identified as Alhaji Dahiru, during an attempted abduction inside a mosque in Patigi, Kwara State.
The attack, which happened around 8:30 pm on a recent weekend during the Ishai prayer, threw worshippers into panic as about seven armed men stormed the mosque and attempted to seize the victim.
Witnesses said Dahiru resisted the assailants, prompting them to shoot him dead on the spot before escaping on motorcycles.
Two empty AK-47 shell casings were allegedly recovered at the scene.

Confirming the incident, the police spokesperson in the state, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said an investigation was ongoing.
“They shot him after he resisted but fled thereafter in controversial circumstances. But the investigation is still on,” she said.
She added that efforts were underway to track down the perpetrators and enhance surveillance in the area to forestall further attacks.
