A police officer was reportedly shot dead and his rifle carted away by gunmen on Saturday night along Jos Street in Kafanchan, headquarters of Jema’a LGA of Kaduna State.
The officer, identified as Sergeant John Auta, was said to have been working at Wonderland Hotel Annex in Ogbomosho Street, Kafanchan.

Daily Trust source who pleaded anonymity said the victim was conveying a suspect, who was apprehended smoking Indian hemp, to the divisional headquarters.
The source said as the officer was returning to the headquarters when he was shot dead. His corpse was discovered later by some police officers on patrol.
When contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige, said he had no details of the incident but promised to get back to our reporter.
