Gunmen kill Rep’s driver, policeman, raze station, vehicles in Anambra

Gunmen again struck in Anambra State Thursday razing Ajali Police station in Orumba North Local Government Area.
They also set ablaze some branded campaign vehicles in sight.
Details of the attack are still sketchy but Daily Trust gathered that the station was torched by gunmen who killed an officer.

Anambra has recorded widespread violence in the buildup to the November governorship election.
Also yesterday, the convoy of the lawmaker representing Nnewi North/Nnewi South/Ekwusigo Constituency in the House of Representatives, Chris Emeka Azubogu, came under attack. The lawmaker’s driver was shot dead in the incident.
Azuogbu, who joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday, was not in the convoy when the assailants struck.
Ikechukwu Onyia, spokesperson of the lawmaker, confirmed the tragic incident.
It was unclear if the attack on Azubogu had a political undertone.
DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra, neither responded to calls nor replied a text message sent.
Daily Trust gathered that gunmen had stormed a funeral ceremony at Ukpo Nnewi South local government area and collected arms from security operatives before heading to Nnewi where they killed the driver.
There has been a high rate of violence in Anambra in the buildup to the November 6 governorship election.
On Tuesday, Dr Chike Akunyili, widower of former Director-General of the National Agency for Food Administration and Drug Control (NAFDAC), was murdered in broad daylight.
