The Plateau State Police Command yesterday confirmed the assassination of one Amos Merit, the ‘Madaki Tarangol’ in Bokkos LGA of Plateau State by armed men.

Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Tyopev Terna told Daily Trust that 57-year-old Merit was killed in his home and that the incident was reported on Sunday night by one Enoch Michael and Christopher Marit of Fokkos in Bokkos.

Tyopev said the two reported that unknown gunmen had forced their way into the premises of the ‘Madaki Tarangol’ at about 8:35pm and shot him in the back. 

“He was rushed to Luna hospital by the duo but later died while receiving treatment. The body has been deposited in the same hospital while the incident is being investigated,” he said.

Daily Trust reports that gunmen suspected to be hired assassins had in September killed the acting village head of Gyangyang, Mohammed Suleiman in Kanam LGA of the state. 

The death of Suleiman came a year after a first class monarch, the Saf Ron Kulere, Lazarus Agai, was ambushed and killed by yet to be identified assailants in Bokkos.
