Two police officers were yesterday shot dead by gunmen along Ada George road in Port Harcourt. 

One other police officers sustained bullet wound.

The victims were said to be on patrol when the incident occurred at about 12.05am.

A source who preferred to remain anonymous said the bandits shot the two police officers at close range before making their escape.

“We heard this morning that two policemen were shot dead by unknown gunmen. It was not during a shootout; in fact, there was no shootout. The gunmen just went straight and shot them.

“One of the policemen, who sustained serious injuries, was rushed to a nearby hospital. We don’t know why policemen, who are doing their security job, should be targeted for murder,” the source said.

When contacted, Rivers State Police Command spokesman, Nnamdi Omoni, confirmed the incident. He said the command has commenced investigation on the incident.
