Rampaging cult gang members struck Wedneday night killing four persons, and injuring several others at the Shomolu area of Lagos state.

The attacker numbering about ten, dressed in black attires, stormed  Abiodun Street at about 10pm in a mini-bus vehicle and started shooting at people on sight.

It was learnt that the attack on the area started on Tuesday and allegedly snowballed into Wednesday.

It was gathered that two persons were killed on Tuesday while the other two died during a cross-fire on Wednesday night.

It was gathered that the men came barely 10 minutes after a big politician left the area.

Some of the residents who spoke to journalists, alleged that the masked men are members of the Eiye cult group, adding that they mistook them to be police officers of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

According to witnesses, after the sporadic gunshots, the gunmen settled down at a nearby beer parlour and started drinking. It was until a man – Tunde Adekoya, popularly known in the neighborhood as ‘Chop-up’ emerged from the scene, that they went wild and shot him in the head, killing him instantly.

“Anytime the politician comes around, we normally hear sporadic gunshots from policemen. So on that night at 36B Abiodun, we thought was it was the the Police details attached to the politician, an eyewitness, Hafeez Olatunde said.

He said “After the gunshots, the men stayed around the area, until when ‘Chop-up’ came out. They shot and killed him instantly.

“Then, suddenly some other group flocking around the area joined in the shooting spree. The bullet also hit another young man, Gabriel at No. 42 Abiodun Street. He was rushed to the hospital where he gave up the ghost.

“They also shot another man popularly known as Bago in the  leg, and he was rushed to the hospital. Bago just held a party in our area few days ago, now he’s in critical state at Igbobi hospital.

“Many passersby were shot and severely injured during the shooting. A woman and four others were shot on their backs, while so many others sustained bullet wounds in different parts of their bodies".

According to residents, the slain Tunde, was known in the community to be a close associate of the politician and was intermediary between the politician and the youths in the neighborhood.

The residents have therefore called on the government to come to their aid as panic and fear of the unknown pervades the area.
