Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have shot a man and abducted his girlfriend in Edo State.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening along the Auchi–Igara Road in Etsako West Local Government Area when the victims were travelling to Igbira Camp between 7 and 8pm.

Sources said the victims, who were on a motorcycle from Auchi, were attacked about 200 metres from an army checkpoint on the road.

The attackers reportedly shot the man during a struggle before whisking away his girlfriend to an unknown destination.

The spokesperson of the Edo State Police Command, Eno Ikoedem, confirmed the incident.

“The kidnappers shot the victim and abducted the girlfriend. The man did not die; he was rescued and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital,” she said.
