Armed robbers attacked two Kubwa neighbourhoods in separate operations and snatched two vehicles, among other valuables, at gunpoint. 

In the first incident, the gunmen, numbering about seven, attacked a house located at the Phase 2 site 2 area of the satellite town, where they robbed residents of their mobile phones, two plasma televisions, and a wristwatch.

The attackers also snatched an official vehicle of one Eng. Alkasim Nafiu, a staff of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources. 

Speaking to Abuja Metro yesterday, the victim disclosed that the attackers came to the area around 2am, adding that he is awaiting a police report to enable an insurance company act on the stolen car, a 2023 Toyota Corolla model. 

In a similar incident, another Kubwa resident, who resides in Gbazango new extension area, lost his vehicle to a gang of robbers in his neighbourhood around 4am last Tuesday.

The victim, Alhaji Sani Muhammad, who works with a mining company in the town, told our reporter during an interview yesterday that the attackers numbering about seven, divided themselves into two groups.

“Three of them took position at the entrance gate of my neighbour’s house, while the other ones, numbering about four, remained at a corner within our neighbourhood.

“I opened my gate a few minutes before 5am to go to a mosque close to my home, only to be rounded up, and directed back into my compound at gunpoint. The other four members, who took position at a nearby corner, joined them immediately,” he lamented. 

He further stated that the attackers demanded that every member of his family hand over their mobile phones to them and thereafter left with one of his vehicles, a 2013 Honda model.

Our reporter gathered that after the matter was reported to the Kubwa police division, detectives arrested a security guard on duty for leaving the neighbourhood gate’s entrance open, in spite of a resolution by the residents that the gate would only be opened at 6am daily.

When contacted, the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in charge of Kubwa, CSP Paul Lazarus, confirmed the two incidents, adding that investigation into the cases is ongoing.
