Following Daily Trust’s story on how arable land is tearing farmers and herders apart in Guri Local Government Area of Jigawa State, authorities have moved in to find a lasting solution to the problem.
Updating Chronicle on the matter, the Hadejia Emirate Council’s Public Relations Officer, Muhammadu Garba Talaki, said the council had summoned a meeting of all stakeholders from Guri and Kiri Kasama, the two affected local government areas.
“The Emir of Hadejia, Alhaji Adamu Abubakar Maje, has organised a joint meeting between the emirate council and the two local government councils of Guri and Kiri Kasamma, which included the Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) from the two local governments, DSS, district heads of the affected areas, representatives of farmers and herders as well as representatives from a local conflict resolution committee.
“The emir presided over the meeting and the objective was to iron out the actual root causes of the crisis with the view to finding a lasting solution to it,” he said.
He said a sub-committee, under the leadership of the Guri Local Government chairman, Alhaji Jaji Adiyani, has been set up with a mandate to ascertain the causes and come up with a comprehensive report for the next line of action.
Talaki also said the committee was given a week to submit its report.
