The Chairman-elect of the Gwagwalada Area Council, Comrade Mohammed Kasim Ikwa, has distributed bags of rice to 123 widows across the council.
While handing over a 15kg bag of rice to each widow at his residence in Gwagwalada on Saturday, Ikwa stated that the gesture was part of his continued effort to support and empower widows and the less privileged in society.
He noted that many of the beneficiaries were among the women who supported and voted for him during the recently concluded chairmanship election, making it imperative for him to give back to them.
According to the chairman-elect, his incoming administration will prioritize women and youth empowerment—with a specific focus on widows—to ensure they become self-reliant within the area.
He assured the widows that this gesture is only the beginning, promising that more empowerment programs designed to improve their livelihoods will be launched as soon as he assumes office in June 2026.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Comfort Ayuba, expressed deep appreciation to the chairman-elect for his kindness.
