Angulu made the call in Gwagwalada at the final match of 2012 Gwagwalada Chairman’s Cup football completion.
He said that the partnership in sports development, especially at the grassroots, was to enhance the discovery of new talents and to engage the youths in positive endeavours.
“This year’s competition is the 15th in the series and as council administration; we will ensure that the competition is sustained.
“I wish to use this opportunity to once again appeal to our various corporate bodies and sports loving individuals to partner with us in sports development.
“This is for the benefit of youths, overall growth of the council, fostering of unity and fraternity among communities as well as discovery of new talents,” he said.
Angulu commended the 29 teams that participated in the competition for the spirit of sportsmanship.
He urged them to sustain the spirit in the interest of development of the area.
He said that plans had been concluded to commence construction work at the council’s mini stadium.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the ceremony featured the final match between the Real Marshal FC and Sheikhandam.
The match ended 7-6 in favour of Real Marshal after penalty shootout.
Prizes were presented to the best goalkeeper, most valuable player, highest goal scorer, best behaved team as well as the first, second and third position teams of the tournament.
Some of the players who spoke to NAN commended the council for sustaining the competition, adding that it would promote peace and development in the council.
Abubakar Mohammed, a player called on football talented youths in the council to embrace the annual completion so as to enhance the realisation of the objectives of the competition. (NAN)
