The chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, Alhaji Adamu Mustapha, has called on farmers and herders in the area to continue to live in peace with one another.

Mustapha made the call, yesterday, while addressing Fulani herdsmen at Kaida community of the council.

He said he was shocked when he received the report of a clash between some farmers and herders in the community, which left some people injured. He said  it was disheartening that despite his administration’s efforts at maintaining peace and calls for tolerance among the various ethnic groups in the area, there were still clashes between farmers and herders.

He noted that development could not be achieved in an atmosphere of violence, emphasizing that peace, love and tolerance were vital for the development and growth of any society.

The chairman stated that being the chief security officer of the council, he would not fold his hands and watch such incidents happen in his domain. He stressed that there was need for all stakeholder and traditional rulers to put heads together to ensure that there was peace in the council.

Also speaking, the district head of Dobi, Alhaji Sule Dobi, expressed concern over the recent incident which erupted between some farmers and herders in the community.

He however commended the council chairman  for reaching out to both the farmers and herders in the community.  He urged the herders and farmers to live in peace.

City News gathered that scores of people were injured, while over 25 farmlands were destroyed following a clash between some farmers and herders in the community on Thursday.
