The Chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, Hon. Kasim Mohammed Ikwa, on Saturday flagged off the construction of Unguwar Basa Road in Dobi community.

Speaking during the ceremony, Ikwa said the project had been abandoned since 2018, prompting his administration to re-award the contract to ease the hardship residents face as a result of the road’s poor condition.

He said completing abandoned projects with direct impact on residents remained one of the priorities of his administration.

The chairman described the road project as the beginning of broader developmental initiatives across the council and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prudent management of public resources.

According to him, every kobo entrusted to the council must translate into tangible benefits for the people.

Ikwa charged the contractor to complete the project within the stipulated timeframe while maintaining high construction standards.

He also appealed to residents to cooperate with the contractor to ensure the project is delivered within 100 days.

Following the flag-off, the chairman inspected the ongoing construction of the council’s town hall project, describing it as a strategic investment that would improve governance and generate additional revenue for the council.

He expressed regret that Gwagwalada, one of the largest area councils in the FCT, had operated for years without a befitting town hall.

According to him, the absence of such a facility has deprived the council of a modern venue for official functions and an avenue for internally generated revenue.
Ikwa assured residents that the project would be completed and inaugurated in the coming months.
