GYN to embark on One House, One Tree campaign

The initiative was aimed at sensitising the populace on the menace of desertification with a view to restoring an efficient green wall.
The National Coordinator GYN, Muhammad Sani Bello, in a chat with Daily Trust in Katsina said indiscriminate felling of trees could force drought and desertification, noting that ‘we must avoid such habit for a virile and efficient environment.”
According to him, climate change could worsen the incidence of drought and desertification and millions of people will be turned into refugees because of the disaster, saying: “We intend to undertake youth-centered projects and programmes to solve these environmental and social challenges.
 “Climate change impacts are felt on agricultural production, health, bio diversities, social and economic conditions on the populace and on the environment in general. Green Youth Nigeria will embark on this rigorous awareness campaign on climate change mitigation, by inculcating the behaviour of Climate Smart through change in our personal practice to help reduce negative pressures on our environment,” he said.
He said, to have cleaner and greener environment, proper environmental practices must be adhered to, especially through sanitation, waste management, recycling, reuse and tree planting, adding: “We are poised to sustain the campaign with a view to ensuring a proper society.
“Green Youth Nigeria was developed as a holistic initiative towards effecting social change to enhance youth development, promoting awareness and encouraging policy makers to support broader action on climate change resilience and encouraging green jobs for youth toward achieving green economy.’’
