Kannywood actress Hadiza Aliyu popularly known as Hadiza Gabon has recently started what she call a sense of belonging visit to internally displaced persons camps to donate food items, textile materials and other materials needed by the camp’s inhabitants.
The actress recently visited the IDP’s camp at Wudil Local Government of Kano State where the excited IDPs couldn’t contain their excitement as they rushed to her en masse chanting her name.
The actress volunteered to participate in the on-going routine immunization at the camp as many mothers and children lined-up wanting to be immunized by the actress.
While going round the camp, the actress engaged the inhabitants in a heart-to-heart discussion as they narrated their ordeals to the actress who was visibly overwhelmed with emotions.
Speaking about her visit, she said: “I know what I am offering to this people is not much, but I see myself as one of them. I have known what it is to live your home to places you know no one and know nowhere. I could remember when my family had to trek from Mubi in Adamawa State to Cameroun. I have seen it with my own eyes and I know the little I am giving will definitely make a difference in these people’s lives. Although the state governments of the affected areas are doing their best, other organisations and well-meaning individuals can do more, such gestures were necessary to put a smile in the faces of IDPs in the camps before eventual relocation to their original abodes. We have to also commend the efforts of corporate organisations and individuals that have contributed in the upkeep of these people.”
She added that: “These people are here not because they wanted to be here, but because they have no option than to be here and thank God that the present administration has done a great deal of efforts in ensuring that peace has returned to these people’s home. It is my prayer that they all return to their respective abodes this year.”
For a moment, the camp forgot its sorrow and all were busy taking pictures with the actress as their smiles freely flowed.
She used the opportunity to call on members of the public to also contribute to the upkeep of the IDPs saying, “It must not be much, but at least we have to show concern on the plight of these people. We have to assist them in the little way that we can, you never know that the little you may give could be a turning point in someone’s life.”
