Residents of Dantauya community in Dutse local government area of Jigawa state have appealed to state government to come to their aid by repairing the vehicle given to them under the Safe Motherhood Programme popularly known as Haihuwa Lafiya.
It would be recalled that the immediate past administration of Jigawa state distributed hundreds of vehicles to various hard-to-reach communities across the state under the Haihuwa Lafiya programme in order to ease transportation of pregnant women to hospital.
However, a resident of the community, Muhammad Aliyu said their vehicle for the programme had broken down for almost a year, noting that the vehicle was serving about 20 settlements under the community.
Aliyu, who spoke on behalf of the community, said breakdown of the vehicle has exposed the affected communities to untold hardship.
"We are appealing to Jigawa state government to come to our aid by fixing the vehicle which stop working nine months ago. Over 20 settlements are at risk of recording an increase in infant and maternal motility following the development," he said.
