The airlift of intending pilgrims for the 2018 Hajj exercise from Gombe State has commenced on Wednesday from the Gombe Airport to Saudi Arabia with 560 intending pilgrims.
The pilgrims comprising 388 males and 172 females depart the airport on board Max Air after a farewell address by Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo.
In the farewell address shortly before the flight took off, Dankwambo urged them to be good ambassadors of the state and the country while in the holy land.
He also called on them to abide by the rules and regulations of the Saudi Arabian authorities.
The Executive Secretary of the State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Usman Gurama, said a total of 1, 200 pilgrims are expected to perform this year’s hajj from the state.
He said the second and last batch of the remaining 640 intending pilgrims is expected to be airlifted on Friday to the holy land.
