Happiness radiates from within us. We will have to search for happiness within ourselves, which is most difficult to find. Why, you may ask. It is because we often depend on others for happiness and believe that if we can’t find happiness from others we can never find happiness anywhere around us. But this notion is not true, as true happiness only comes from within us. True happiness comes when we are happy with ourselves and, when this is possible, every other thing falls in place.
“One thing happy people know is that they don’t get to be happy all the time. They can appreciate the moments, the little victories, the small miracles, and the little disappointments that come along with life from time to time”, says Benjamin Demeji.
For many people, happiness is rather elusive because they feel they can never find happiness with themselves without the help of others or, in other words, if people are not happy with them for one thing or the other they can never be happy. They’ve tried to buy happiness. For others they have tried to force happiness on themselves or others while others have sought it through pleasurable activities; but nothing has seemed to work for them because happiness is never bought or faked.
“One way to steer your life towards happiness is simply to count your blessings. When you stop your negative thinking and start counting your blessings, only then would you realise how happy you are to be able to have such blessings and what more is more than a happy life of blessings” asks Hajiya Bilkisu Sadiq.
Some think they can find happiness from a book. Others think that it comes from having riches or material things. If that is true, how come we still have many people who have the wealth and all the good things of life still searching for happiness, while those who have nothing but just managing with life find happiness? A famous oil magnate and billionaire Paul J Getty once said “I would give away my wealth to have a happy marriage”. This goes to show that happiness can never be bought with any amount of money. So the question is, where and how can we truly find happiness for a fruitful and comfortable life?
The real source of happiness does not come from the outside. It is always and has always been within us. Happiness is a state of mind which no one can give to us but be given by ourselves alone. There is no need to buy books, seek the services of a shrink, or accumulate material things in order to be happy.
Appreciate every waking moment in life; life is such a tremendous blessing. That fact that you are alive should make you happy. See the good in every situation and be thankful and appreciate it. If you maintain this outlook, the joy and happiness that builds up inside of you will eventually overflow. People will notice that you are a different person.
Do you want to be happy? The only route to it is stop whining, complaining and seeing the negative side in every situation. Revise your thinking and your entire outlook. Forget what others think about you as they can never give you the happiness that you desire. No one but you can make yourself happy. Only you can make yourself happy and likewise no one can make you sad except you give them the chance to.
The most important rule in life is to live the present. Letting go of the past, future, and all your trivial worries will by far be the best change you can make. Stop whining. Please stop complaining. Appreciate each and every moment in life. Do not wait for happiness to come to your life, make it happen now. Understand that no one is in charge of you happiness except you. The choice is yours!
