The President of the Church of the Brethren (EYN), Yola, Rev. Daniel Y.C. Mbaya, has said nations relying heavily on palliatives are doomed to fail.

Speaking at the 78th General Church Council (GCC) Majalisa 2025, themed “Living Church in a Decaying World,” in Mararaba Mubi, Adamawa State, Rev. Mbaya emphasized the need for the government to engage economic experts to proffer solutions to the nation’s problems.

“We call on the government to take necessary actions during this critical time to lessen the burden on citizens. Any country that depends on palliative has no future,” he stated.

Rev. Mbaya lamented the current economic hardship, describing it as the worst ever.

He encouraged pastors and members to remain optimistic and pray for the nation’s prosperity.

The EYN President highlighted the Church’s efforts to support those affected by insurgency through the Brethren Care Centre, offering counseling services.

He also directed clinicians’ dispensaries to resume morning devotion sessions for staff and patients.

“Our nation, no wonder, has found herself in what I call the worst economic hardship ever. As a leader, I have repeatedly called on our pastors and members alike not to curse our country but to bless it,” he stated.

Also speaking, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu who was represented by Amb.Kevin Peters called for unity and peace in Nigeria.

Ribadu emphasized the need for Christian leaders to play a vital role in promoting peace and security in the country.

“Beloved brethren, the task of building a peaceful and secure Nigeria is one we all share. It demands intentionality, unity, and faith. Please rise and take your rightful place as the salt of the earth and the light of the world,” he stated.

He encouraged church leaders to preach the Gospel of Peace and Love, emphasizing respect for all Nigerians regardless of tribe, faith, or status.

He advocated for open dialogue with other faith groups to foster national cohesion and mutual respect.

“We must not be passive, but actively work toward building a peaceful and secure society,” he added.

Ribadu also urged the Church to speak boldly against injustice, corruption, and oppression, promoting policies that uphold equity, human rights, and national security.

Rev. Mbaya expressed gratitude to Governor Ahmadu Fintiri for creating Emirates and Chiefdoms.

He urged appointed leaders to promote peace and development in their domains, justifying the confidence placed in them.

The EYN President emphasized the importance of community engagement and environmental conservation, urging pastors to build strong relationships with community leaders, political office holders, and stakeholders to spread the love and light of Christ.

Tree planting initiatives were also stressed as a means to combat climate change.
