A philanthropist in Gombe State, Bala Bello Tinka, has distributed the sum of N100 million cash to 10,000 needy and vulnerable groups in the state, to ameliorate their sufferings.

Tinka, the Chief Executive Officer of ‘Tinka Point Limited,’ a construction company, said the N100 million was distributed to 10,000 individuals, with each beneficiary receiving N10,000.

He added that food items worth N50 million were distributed among 500 families, identified through local community organisations, traditional rulers and religious leaders. “And each family received a bag of maize and a carton of spaghetti enough to last for at least two months.”

According to him, the decision to provide the assistance was in view of the current hardship and suffering faced by people in the state, especially the downtrodden in this period of economic hardship.

“The gesture was triggered by my neighbours in ‘Nayi Nawa,’ community who complained of hunger and my aides to assess their condition, I decided to earmark N150 million from my wealth to share to these less privileged persons,” he said.

Tinka said the beneficiaries were selected through a rigorous process by a committee with criteria which includes; low-income families struggling to make ends meet and business owners facing financial challenges.

He explained that traditional rulers and religious leaders were given slots to nominate beneficiaries from their domains, in addition to the Chief Imams and their deputies, from the 182 Jumu’at mosques in Gombe metropolis, who also received a cash donation of a substantial amount of money.

He stated that the donations and distribution of the food items is expected to have a profound impact on the lives of those who receive the funds, and serves as an inspiration to other wealthy individuals in the state.

Tinka, therefore, called on other wealthy individuals in the state, to give out to the needy, in order to complement the government’s palliatives and mitigate the hardship faced by the citizens.
