A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential hopeful, Dr. Gbenga Hashim, has set in motion a machinery to reconcile the warring factions within the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
The PDP has been embroiled in legal disputes and factional crises since the 2023 elections culminating in the disagreement over the last national convention held in Ibadan.
A source close to the presidential aspirant disclosed that Hashim, a founding member of the PDP in 1998, has been engaging key stakeholders across rival blocs in a bid to halt escalating internal divisions and reposition the party ahead of future electoral contests.
“The reconciliation initiative began in January with consultations involving leaders of the Turaki bloc before extending to discussions with Malam Abdulrahman, a prominent figure within the faction often associated with former Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, “ the source said.

Sources said the conversations were focused largely on the political and institutional consequences of prolonged litigation within the party.
Hashim had also consulted former Heads of State, Olusegun Obasanjo and Ibrahim Babangida, both influential figures in the PDP’s early years.
Although neither elder statesman has publicly commented on the consultations, sources indicated that their counsel centered on unity, stability and national competitiveness as essential pillars for the party’s revival.
Our correspondents learned that the inability of the party to resolve the lingering crisis has led many including governors to leave the party.
Recently, the governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, left the party for the All Progressives Congress (APC) while there are speculations that the Zamfara State governor, Dauda Lawal is also planning to defect from the party.
