Hausa community in Takum town of Taraba State have been commended for coexisting peacefully with all the tribes in Takum over the years.

The commendation to Hausa community was contained in a paper presented by Professor Mustapha Baba Ibi of Taraba State University during the 30th anniversary of Sarkin Hausawa of Takum which was held in Takum town,Friday.

The paper titled “30 anniversary of Sarkin Hausawa Takum the journey, issues and success do far” ,Professor Mustapha Baba Ibi said the Hausa community in Takum has became part  of Takum community and are  coexisting peacefully and also contributing to economic, social and political development of the area.

He traced the history of Hausa in Takum to 18th century and the area they are occupying is  now  Rogo ward in Takum and has been contributing to the development of Takum and Taraba state in general.

He said  the Present Sarkin Hausawa Alhaji Hudu Ismaila Madugu, has exhibited leadership qualities that Further consolidated the gains of Hausa community in Takum.

“As a result of diverse ethnic composition of Takum which include Jukun,Chamber,Kutep and Hausa the Sarkin Hausawa had navigated complex inter ethnic relation and the role of doing so required diplomacy and keen understanding of cultural dynamics at play,” he said.

He explained that the Hausa people known for their craftsmanship and agricultural practices have historically played a critical role in the development of various region in Nigeria.

Professor Mustapha, said the Sarkin Hausawa remain a symbol of the Hausa identity in Takum  contributing to the cultural richness of Taraba and also serve as bridge between the  past and present Hausa community.

He therefore, put forward the request for the upgrading of Rogo District to a graded Chiefdom, adding that the gesture would bring government closer to the people of the community.

“This gesture will further enhance economic viability, sustainability and fully secured the community as the ungoverned space will be fully protected.”  he said

In his address, Dr Philip Duwe, also appreciated the Hausa community in Takum for maintaining a  record  of cordiality and harmonious coexisting  with all the tribes in Takum.

Dr.Duwe,explained that it was because of the cordial relationship the Hausa community maintained with all the tribes in the community that their anniversary was attended by all the tribes in Takum and urged  them to maintained the good spirit.

Also in his address, the chairman of Taraba State council of Emirs and Chiefs, the Aku Uka of Wukari Manu Ishaku identified with the Hausa community in Takum for their contribution to the development of Takum and also for their peaceful coexistence with other communities in Takum and the state in general.

In his address,the Alhaji Hudu Ismaila Madugu, the Sarkin Hausawa of Takum, expressed delight over the peace in Takum and in Taraba as general and lauded Governor Agbu Kefas for his peace effort.

He  traced the history of Hausa in Takum  to over 300 years and their forefathers had inter marriages with  all the three tribes,the Jukun,Chamber and Kutep and that had brought about cohesion and integration of Hausa community among the three ethnic groups in Takum.

He said the Hausa community have maintained mutual understanding and are coexisting peacefully with Jukun,Chamber and Kutep ethnic groups.
