A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Prince Tonye Princewill, has called on the Rivers State Government to do more in addressing soot menace in the state.

Princewill said there was no end in sight to the soot constituting environmental and health hazards to residents. 

He said residents woke up every morning to the menace of the soot, adding that the state government should be tough on illegal refineries. 

He said jobless youths were behind the illegal artisanal refinery, adding that creating jobs would reduce their engagement in illegal refinery business in the state.  

Governor Nyesom Wike had in recent times launched an onslaught on the activities of illegal refinery operators in the state, where many of their dumpsites were destroyed by the agents of both state and local government areas, but the menace of the soot seems to persist
