A civil servant, Kareem Khadijat Abimbola on Tuesday pleaded with a grace c customary court sitting in Oja-Oba, Mapo area of Ibadan, to dissolve her 12-year-old marriage with her husband Kareem Hammed Idowu for a threat to her life.

She said she could not cope with him again because Idowu used to beat her, maltreating her, and even refused to care for the children in the marriage.

Abimbola who refused to speak further on the matter, urged the court to consider the future of her children and the negative effect of the maltreatment of her husband on the family.

On his part, Idowu said his wife was only misleading the court for the allegations leveled against him.

He said he had severally reported his wife to her father for slapping him even when he was trying to find out truth about issues from her.

Idowu,  a teacher in one of the private secondary schools in Ibadan,  said contrary to the allegations that he was not always caring for his children, he was paying the school fees of his children regularly.

He said: “My lord,  please ask her,  if I am not caring for the children. I pay for their school fees and their feeding allowance. I am a responsible father. I prefer to serve them for the whole of my life, ” he said.

The president of the court, Chief Ademola Odunade, ordered that the couple should go in their separate ways and also ordered the husband to pay for the feeding allowance of the children.
