A headmaster, Sule Yusuf, has been remanded in prison custody for allegedly sodomising a 4-year-old boy.

Yusuf, 57, was said to have committed the offence in his office located inside the Salihawa Primary School in Musawa Local Government in Katsina State.

According to the Police First Information Report read at the Chief Magistrate Court in Katsina, the village head of Tungen Zuri, Kabir Hussaini, reported the matter to a police outpost in the area.

He told the police that the victim’s mother, a resident of Gidan Ranau village, reported to him that the accused had defiled her son.

The police prosecuting officer Sani Ado told the court that the accused person’s action is contrary to section 284 of the penal code.

He further said that investigation on matter in still ongoing.

In her ruling, Magistrate Fadilla Dikko, adjourned the matter to August 24, and ordered that the accused be remanded in prison as the case was only brought in for cognisance. 

“This court will not ask you whether this allegation is true or false as the offence is only triable by the High Court,” she told the accused person.

She said after police investigation, the case file would be deposited at the Ministry of Justice for legal advice. “If a prima facie is established against you it will be then that you will be charged at the High Court under section 130 of the Criminal Procedure Code,” she added.
