Health benefits of eating fruits and vegetables

Mankind has been blessed with different types of fruits and vegetables which provide the necessary nutrients for growth and development of the body. Vegetables provide nutrients vital for health and maintenance of your body.
People who eat more fruits and vegetables as part of an overall healthy diet are likely to have reduced chronic diseases. Sometimes we tend to underestimate their importance and roles in our bodies.
They make the skin glow: Vegetables prevent unwanted signs of aging and keep skin young and supple thanks to phytonutrients, Vitamin C and high water content.
They reduce stress: Stress can make you tired and moody, hindering your ability to make healthy nutrition choices. The result is emotional overeating and binges. Meanwhile, nutrients like magnesium and Vitamin C are quickly depleted during stressful times. Luckily, many vegetables contain these very nutrients, as well as tension-reducing fatty acids and B vitamins that fight anxiety and depression.
They detoxify the body.
Mrs Amaka Idris an expert in traditional health medicine stated that vegetables and fruits are very essential in the growth and proper well-being of people, especially children.
She said: ‘’I eat a lot of vegetables and fruits. I also advise my clients to make them a part of their diet. This would help them look fresh and healthy.’’
Concurring with Mrs Idris, Mrs Mercy Ede a mother of one, said she loved eating fruits. ‘’I love fruits a lot; infact my favourites are mangoes, oranges, watermelon, banana etc. Because of how important they are in the body, I want my daughter to learn how to eat them so that by the time she is grown, she’ll be used to them.”
Comfort Joseph, a fruit seller in Kubwa said she makes a lot of money every day from patronage of her fruits.
“I always make sure I sell fresh fruits. I always have lots of customers because of the freshness of my fruits,” she said.
Speaking on why she thinks people buy fruits, she said, “I think it is because of what they do to the body. While growing up, my mum always told us that we should eat fruits because they would give us vitamins A and C and they would help us to be strong. So I grew up with that and I love taking fruits, not just because of their taste but also because of what they do in the body.”
