Health insurance: Jigawa threatens to sanction erring HMOs

The Jigawa State government has threatened to sanction any Health Maintenance Organisation (HMO) that fails to provide quality service to those that registered for the health insurance scheme.
The Executive Secretary of Jigawa Contributory Health Insurance Management Agency (JICHIMA), Hamza Kakuri, issued the warning while briefing newsmen yesterday in Dutse, the state’s capital.
He explained that over 222,000 people were enroled in the formal sector of the scheme and 281 health facilities were accredited as service providers across the state.
“We are paying these accredited facilities their capitation on the 25th of every month against next month which means the services are pre-paid. So, there is no reason whatsoever not to provide the services they were paid for,” he said.

He however revealed that in the non-formal sector under Basic Primary Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCF), a total of 91,840 less privileged people were enroled, with 320 people from each of the political wards in the state.
