Health: Katsina holds summit on accountability

A one day meeting aimed at improving accountability for health by MNCH2 has commenced in Katsina.

The meeting coming against the background of increasing mortality rate in the northern part of the county as result of inadequate healthcare funding coupled with weak health systems and sub optimal translation of laws, policies and strategies.

Speaking at the event, the state commissioner of health Mariyatu Usman represented by the permanent Secretary Health, Kabir Mustapha said Katsina is committed towards improving the health sector through collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

On his part, the chairman of civil society in Katsina, Bishir Ruwangodiya said the CSO’s have been up and doing ensuring openness and accountability in government for the overall interest of governance.

Earlier in his welcome remarks, the state team leader of MNCH2 in Katsina Garba Idris said the organizations approach to improving accountability involves three inter linked components of evidence, advocacy and knowledge which work hand in hand.

Daily trust reports that participants are drawn from six States of Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Yobe, Zamfara and Katsina states.
