The  Health Records Officers Registration Board of Nigeria  has partnered with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) towards developing a universal  and indigenous software for patients records in health facilities.

Speaking when he led a delegation on a visit to NITDA yesterday, Registrar of the Board, Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim Mami said it was necessary to collaborate with the agency to develop a local software which would be compliant to Nigeria’s  health system rather than a foreign software. He said this was in line with the federal government’ s policy on  patronization of local content.

He called for the development of  software modules for use in training institutions, adding that adopting both kinds of software would help in generating revenue and reducing unemployment .

Mami called for the adoption of electronic health records saying it has more benefits for the patients, clinicians and the country than the paper records presently used by some facilities.

Director-General of NITDA, Dr Isa Pantami said the organization regulates the information technology sector in Nigeria, and serves as the clearing house of all Ministries Departments and Agency  projects related to Information Communication Technology (ICT).

Represented by Colins Agwu, he assured the health  records board of its commitment to the partnership. 

In a related development the Chairman Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has called on the Health Records Officers Registration Board of Nigeria  to get its staff trained and certified by NIPR.

Chairman of the organization Dr Tayo Haastrup, made the call when he led a delegation on a visit to the Registrar at the board’s headquarters at Abuja.

While saying that NIPR was willing to partner with the board on public relations issues, he said NIPR would be holding an annual general meeting with the theme “Rebranding Nigeria, the people, government and the economy” in November.

Responding Registrar of the Board Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim Mami said in line with government’s directive to establish public relations units in all ministries , departments and agencies, the board has established an employee relations and protocol unit.
