The Zamfara State Government has launched a digital health initiative aimed at improving healthcare delivery across hospitals and other health facilities in the state.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Nafisa Muhammad Maradun, announced the initiative during a one-day Digital Health Stakeholders’ Engagement Meeting held at the Ministry of Health Conference Hall in Gusau.
She said digitalising the health sector had become imperative to improve access to quality healthcare, strengthen disease surveillance, enhance data management and support evidence-based decision-making.
Maradun said the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal was committed to driving digital transformation in the health sector to build a more efficient, responsive and resilient healthcare system.

She, however, noted that despite progress in deploying digital health solutions across various health programmes, the state still faced challenges, including fragmented digital systems, limited interoperability, inadequate coordination, poor digital literacy among health workers and infrastructure gaps.
According to her, the stakeholders’ meeting would enable government agencies, development partners, health professionals, implementing partners and academics to assess the current level of digital health implementation, identify priorities and develop a roadmap for strengthening digital health services in the state.
She urged participants to contribute meaningfully to the discussions, stressing that collaboration and sustained investment were key to building an integrated digital health ecosystem capable of improving service delivery and accelerating progress towards Universal Health Coverage.
The commissioner, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Alhaji Rilwanu Musa Zurmi, also appreciated development partners for their continued technical and financial support to the state’s health sector.
Representatives of the State Primary Healthcare Board, Hospital Services Management Board, Local Government Health Authorities, professional associations, private hospitals and implementing partners attended the meeting.
