There is need to infuse technological innovations into healthcare system to improve the efficiency of medical delivery in Nigeria, the Chief Executive Officer, DiagnosisMe Africa, Dr. Abasi Ene-Obong has said.

Dr. Ene-Obong disclosed this while unveiling an online medical platform named DiagnosisMe Africa, adding that the introduction of ICT in health care delivery will curb incidents of misdiagnosis.

According to him, the platform was designed as a one-stop shop where patients at the tip of their fingers can relate to the specialised doctors to assist them.

He said, “Misdiagnosis happens in Nigeria when there is no tool to give the right diagnosis. And in Nigeria what we provide is what we call routine test. How diagnosis can be reduced in Nigeria is by providing tools for doctors to actually order test.

“Testing is about investigation; that is where the misdiagnosis comes from. Now, we won’t blame the Nigerian hospital because they can only prescribe test. Medicine is about investigation and when there is investigation, then misdiagnosis can be reduced.”

Also speaking on the state of healthcare service delivery, Dr. Tolu Adewole urged the federal government to strike a balance by clamping on quacks who perform medical duties.

He said, “The government has to regulate healthcare. Today, healthcare is very fragmented. If there is proper regulation of healthcare, we can then begin to offer service; and one can be rest assured that quacks will no longer be there.

“The real thing is that the government needs to start to regulate the healthcare. Today, anybody can open a clinic. So, there has to be a minimum standard”.
